Northwich town centre has for many years now, been starved of investment, mostly for valid reasons, such as dealing with the salt mines. Finally something is happening, Cheshire West & Chester (CW&C) have secured land and are bravely proposing to develop themselves, the area behind McDonald's and Marks & Spencers through to the River Weaver known as Baron's Quay. They have now instructed architects (Broadway Maylan) and have engaged in public consultation and their plan is “to provide a high quality, comprehensive scheme with a variety of uses to support the regeneration of Northwich by attracting more people to the town centre" (source: stage 2 Engagement Event September 2012).
After the results from the stage one consultation and following feedback from Northwich Guardian readers, the River Weaver Navigation Society (RWNS), who has for many years pushed for a sympathetic waterside redevelopment in that area and the Weaver Valley Partnership have set up the Northwich Consultation Group as a voluntary group of parties concerned with the development of Baron's Quay in Northwich town centre. For too long Northwich has turned its back on a waterfront which, with sympathetic development could rival or even surpass that of other towns and cities, which have taken advantage of this important asset.
The purpose of this survey is intended to assess public opinion of the Broadway Maylan proposal, before Cheshire West and Chester's submission of the planning application, and invite you to participate in this voluntary survey. The results will be presented to Cheshire West and Chester and Broadway Maylan to either support their claim that this is what the people want or to avoid money being spent on what could be a missed opportunity.
The questionnaire will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
