Hybrids have two engines. When it starts up it uses the electrical motor. When speeding up or if the driver demands more power the main engine starts up thus the electrical motor acts as an assistant in high speed driving. Hybrids are better than fuel based cars because it has reduced emission and the ability to use the electrical motor when idle. This lowers gas emissions by 36 percent.
