Dear Friends in the Water Monitoring Community:
The Center for Environmental Policy at American University is coordinating an effort by the Partnership on Technology Innovation and the Environment to accelerate the development, deployment, and adoption of affordable nutrient sensor technology.
In preparation for dialogue with manufacturers and developers, we are compiling a set of specifications and requirements. We would like to include input from current and future users of nutrient sensor data. It would help us greatly if you could give us your reaction to the draft specifications (technical, cost and system). We will share the results with you in advance of the dialogue this summer.

Lower LOD: What is the lowest concentration you would typically need to measure (mg/l)?
Upper LOD: What is the highest concentration you would typically have to measure (mg/l)?
Accuracy: What is the minimum accuracy you would need (% of reading)? In other words, how close does the measurement need to be to the “real” concentration? i.e. 10% (2.7-3.3 mg/l if the real concentration is 3.0mg/l)
Precision: What is the minimum precision you would need (% of reading)? In other words how close to one another do repeated measures need to be? Assuming 5-10 measures for each sample, what is the maximum amount of variably you would accept? i.e. 10% (repeat readings range 2.5-2.9, given average concentrations of 2.7).
