A legal nurse consultant (LNC) is a registered nurse who uses expertise as a health care provider and specialized training to consult on medical-related legal cases. LNCs assist legal practitioners in reading medical records and understanding medical terminology and healthcare issues to achieve the best results for their clients.

LNC's provide the following services:

- Medical malpractice: LNC's will evaluate whether the standard of care was met when the healthcare provider treated the patient;

- Personal injury: LNC's will determine if the resulting injury or healthcare issue is related to the alleged negligence; and

- Risk management: LNC's will review medical records and evidence for compliance with state and federal regulations.

A LNC can:

- Work with legal professionals on the resolution of healthcare related litigation or other matters,
