Synthetic data

Synthetic data refers to artificially generated, respondent-level data that mirrors real-world survey or panel data distributions. It is used for survey testing, forecasting, modeling, and scenario analysis, while ensuring speed, cost efficiency, and privacy.

At QuestionPro, you can use the Synthetic data platform to generate synthetic reports and responses based on available survey or community data within your own account.

No, other users cannot access your data.

You have complete control over your account data. Your data remains fully private and secure and is not shared or made accessible to any other user, organization, or external entity.

At QuestionPro, we strictly adhere to privacy and data protection standards. This means:

• We do not allow any internal or external users to access your data for generating or gathering synthetic reports.
• We do not use your data to train any Large Language Models (LLMs), Small Language Models (SLMs), AI, or agentic models.
• You retain full ownership and control of how your data is used within your account.

Go to Audience → Synthetic data and click the Sync data button.

• Surveys – Sync data from surveys in your account.
• Communities – Sync data from communities in your account.

Syncing a Survey

1. Select Surveys as the data source.

   

   A popup will appear listing all surveys available in your account.

2. Select the survey you want to sync.

   

   A confirmation modal will display the following details before you proceed:

   • Data source: Survey
   • Survey name
   • Number of respondents in the survey
   • Number of questions in the survey
   • Validation status: The system will validate that the survey meets the minimum requirements — at least 20 questions and at least 100 responses. If these thresholds are not met, the sync cannot proceed.
3. Click Confirm to begin the sync process.

   

   The system will start synthesizing the survey data.

   

Syncing a Community

1. Select Communities as the data source.

   

   A popup will appear with two tabs:

   • My Communities – Lists all communities hosted on your own account.
   • QuestionPro Communities – Lists all QuestionPro‑owned communities available for synthetic research.

   

2. Select the community you want to sync.

   

   A confirmation modal will display the following details:

   • Data source: Community
   • Community name
   • Number of respondents
3. Click Confirm to begin the sync process.

   

   The system will start synthesizing the community data.

Once your data is synced, you can perform two types of synthetic research:

• Synthetic Responses – Simulate survey responses from the synthesized data source.
• Synthetic Cohort – Run in‑depth qualitative research using a matched cohort of synthetic members.

Synthetic Responses allow you to simulate survey responses using your synced data.

1. Define the number of responses
   • Specify how many synthetic responses you want to collect.

   

2. Select a survey
   • Choose the survey for which you want to generate synthetic responses.

   

   • The system will validate the selected survey for compatibility. Certain question types are not supported for Synthetic Responses. If the survey contains any unsupported question types, it will be flagged as invalid and cannot be launched.
3. Confirm and launch
   • A confirmation launch window will appear displaying:
   • Project name – Enter a name for this project.
   • Description – Optionally describe the purpose of the study.
   • Data source – The synced data source selected.
   • Survey selected – The survey chosen in the previous step.
   • Number of responses – The target response count defined earlier.
   • Survey validity – Displays Yes if the survey is compatible, or No if unsupported question types were detected.
   • If the survey is valid, click Confirm to launch.

   

   • The synthetic members from the data source will begin responding to the survey.

   

Synthetic Cohort enables qualitative, in‑depth interview (IDI)‑style research using matched synthetic members. Follow the steps below:

1. Create a Cohort
   • Click the Synthetic cohort button.

   

   • Enter a name, description, and a detailed purpose for your study. The purpose helps filter data and match it with relevant questions and participants.
   • Set the similarity percentage to define how closely the synthetic data should align with your study purpose.
   • Click Create to create the cohort.

   

2. In‑Depth Interviews (IDIs)

   

   • The cohort will display:
     • Matched questions from the synthesized data (with matching percentages).
     • Matched members (with matching scores).
   • Specify the number of members to include in the interview (between 1 and 50).

   

3. Add Questions
   • Use QuestionPro AI to auto‑generate questions by clicking the Ask question button.
   • Or add your own custom questions.

   

4. Generate Report
   • Once your questions are finalized, click Generate report.

   

   • QuestionPro AI will ask the selected members the questions.

   

   • QuestionPro AI will then generate a summary report that includes:
     1. Key takeaways
     2. In‑depth summary
     3. Insightful quotes
     4. Similarities and differences
     5. Recommended actions to support decisions

   

5. Download Report
   • Export the report in PDF or Markdown format for easy sharing.
