When the teacher gives you the first assignment back, you realize you only got a D. Same happens with second assignment and group project – you get a low C and a D.

You are taking a new class and you are enjoying it. You feel you know the material pretty well, so you study a moderate amount of time for the first assessment. You feel you did quite well, though there were some questions you didn’t know answers to. You get your test back and the grade you received is F.

In your course one of the assignments is a group project. You have been randomly assigned to group A with two people you don’t know. During week one one of your teammates – Mary, eavesdrops and uses the idea belonging to another group. In the second week she acts rude towards the other person in the group. Later on, she is very late for the group meeting and has no excuse for it.

You have met Alan on couple occassions. During your first encounter you saw him sharing his snack with a hungry classmate. Next time, at the party, he went to buy more beer, when no one else wanted to go out in the rain. Another time, he took a blame for another person. When you saw him on the street the other day you noticed he yelled at the person selling magazines.

Imagine you are a teacher. You work hard to prepare the material for classes and you put a lot of energy to teaching. A student comes unprepared for the first tutorial – she didn’t read the assigned article. When you are assessing the short essays your class wrote, you realize that she did really bad. On class test she got a D.

You are taking a new course and so far you have been doing quite well. Professor announces a new assignement that won‘t be graded. He gives you a choice - you can either write an essay on material you already know or read couple new articles and take a quiz. The first one would make you look good, since you already know the material, but the second one would allow you to learn something new.
