Dear Participant,
Thank you for your interest in participating in this study. I am a Professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology in the School of Letters and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) in the United States collaborating with Mr. Henry Lewis Jr. lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the University of Technology. We are conducting a research study to examine the extent to which the match between a Caribbean student’s interest and his or her academic major contributes to their academic success. I am inviting your participation, which will involve filling out an anonymous online survey. This survey will take no more than 20 minutes of your time.
Your participation in this study is voluntary and there are no right or wrong answers to any questions on the survey. If you decide to take part in the study, it should be because you really want to volunteer. There will be no penalty and you will not lose any benefits or rights you would normally have if you choose not to volunteer. No one on the research team will behave any differently toward you if you choose not to participate in the study. You can stop at any time during the study and still keep the benefits and rights you had before volunteering. To the best of our knowledge, the things you will be doing have no more risk of harm than you would experience in everyday life. You will not receive any payment or reward for taking part in this study. This survey will take no more than 20 minutes of your time. You must be 18 or older to participate. Even though there are no direct benefits for participating in the study, your participation will provide valuable information that may help university administrators, academic advisors, and career counselors improve students’ academic experiences and satisfaction and ultimately their persistence to graduation.
Your responses will be anonymous, and no identifying information will be solicited. All surveys will be stored in a locked and secure file cabinet at the principal investigator’s office in 401 Payne Hall at Arizona State University. The principal investigators and an authorized doctoral student will be the only people who have access to the data. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications only in the aggregative form. Your participation in the survey will be considered as your consent to participate in the study.
If you have any questions concerning the research study or the results, please contact Kerrie Wilkins at [email protected] or Henry Lewis Jr. at [email protected]. For independent advice on your rights as a research participant please contact the Office of Research and Graduate Studies at [email protected]. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please click the “continue” button below if you agree to participate in the current study.
Sincerely,
