This research is being conducted on behalf of Kenisha White’s undergraduate thesis for partial completion of her undergraduate studies. The topic inquires about How the Experiences of Arabs and Muslims in the United States are Portrayed.

Consent to Participate in Research:
Thank you for your participation in this research study. This form details the purpose of this study, a description of your involvement required and your rights as a participant.

Research Purpose:
This research study is designed to inquire about the popular narrative that portrays the experiences of Arabs and Muslims across the United States. In doing so, the research hopes to new insights to the already existing scholarly documentation of the experiences of Arabs and Muslims in the United States.

The benefits of this research will be:
• To benefit academic discourse/knowledge about the portrayal of the experiences of Arabs and Muslims in the post-9/11 decade, while there exist no direct benefits to the respondent.

The methods that will be used to meet this purpose includes
• Generating data through questionnaires
• Engaging scholars who have document the experiences of Arabs and Muslims across the United States

The questionnaire is designed to provide you an opportunity to share your perspectives on the narrative that depicts your experiences as an Arab, a Muslim or both. The questionnaire is designed to generate responses anonymously through an online survey.

Your participation in this research is voluntary, and you will not be penalized or lose benefits if you refuse to participate or decide to stop. All information will be destroyed by 5/31/2014.

Insights gathered by you and other participants will be used in writing a quantitative research report, which will be read by my professor and be presented to my Seminar group as well as a small group of faculty members.

Potential Risks
While there are no foreseeable risks, in the case of any personal issues brought up during the course of your response to the questionnaire, you have the right to immediately stop the questionnaire.

Compensation
There is no form of compensation from this study.

How findings will be used
The results for this study will be used for Kenisha White’s undergraduate thesis, and will be presented on May 5th at the History Seminar forum at DePauw University.
