Volunteer Opportunities at Whitman Middle School
 
 
 
Thank you for offering to volunteer your time to help create a great Whitman Middle School experience for all our students. By completing this survey, you are providing us with some basic contact information as well as indicating your interest in various volunteer opportunities at Whitman throughout the school year.

You will be contacted by either the PTSA Volunteer Coordinator or a PTSA committee chair when volunteers are needed, based on the interests you express in this survey.

Which of the following volunteer opportunities in September are you interested in? Please check all that apply.
 
Day of Caring for United Way – Help organize or participate in activities on September 20th
 
Picture Day – Help the photo sessions move along efficiently on September 20th
 
Hall Support – Hall support parents provide an adult presence during the lunchtime transition for shifts between 10:45 and 12:25. Hall support is a key part of the Whitman commitment to a supervised, structured environment that helps students achieve their best. Training is at 9:30am September 6th, 2013 in the school lunchroom

Baker – Bring baked or store-bought treats to selected PTSA events.
 
Building Improvement Committee (BIC) – Help with the efforts to paint, clean-up school interior, and more.
 
Dances – Help plan, decorate, chaperone, or sell tickets for one or more of the dances held after school.
 
Database entry (work at home opportunity!)– Help enter PTSA volunteer information into our database in the fall.
 
Fundraising Committee – Help generate and orchestrate fundraising activities.
 
Funky Formal – Help the committee chairs plan & organize this fun adult, staff & community event in February.
 
Gardening – Share your expertise or labor in beautifying our exterior grounds.
 
Help in a pinch – Willing to help out in a pinch for one-off kinds of volunteer needs.
 
Holiday Family Support Drive – Help organize the gathering of extra gifts & food for our Whitman families in need.
 
Hospitality – Set-up baked goods and procure or make beverages for select PTSA events
 
International Potluck – Help set-up, monitor and clean up for the International Potluck typically held in November.
 
Library – Help in the library (feel free to email our librarian [email protected] directly).
 
Reflections – National PTA-sponsored fall arts competition. Encourage student participation and coordinate entries.
 
Safety Team – Identify safety concerns, work with school, distribute emergency preparedness supplies, etc.
 
Science Fair & Pizza dinner – Help plan the Science Fair & Pizza Dinner typically held in May.
 
Staff Appreciation Team – Help bake treats, bring flowers, or assist with a staff lunch or breakfast.
 
Tutors - Tutor students during the school day or possibly after school, usually an hour a week.
 
Testing Assistant – Help MAP test coordinator with various tasks over a day or week in Sept/Oct, January, or May.
 
Whitman News Bulk Mailing Team (work at home opportunity!) – Folding, labeling, and mailing of quarterly school calendar & news.
 
Hand out yearbooks – Volunteers help the staff in the Main Office hand out yearbooks the last week of school.
 
8th Grade Promotion Committee – Help with June promotion ceremony, including decorations and refreshments.

I understand that before I am allowed to volunteer at Whitman Middle School that I may be required to fill out a SPS Screening form Request for Criminal History Information and turn it in to the school's Main Office and that a background check will be performed by Seattle Public Schools. You will be asked to complete this form if and when required.
