Always Extract and Never Extract Logic

When setting extraction, irrespective of respondent selection, you may want certain options to be displayed or not-displayed in the follow up questions. For achiveving this, you can use the always extract and never extract logic options.

For example, consider a question in your survey "Please select all smartphone brands that you have used in the past?" with following answer options:

Apple
Samsung
Google
Motorola
OnePlus
Xiaomi
LG
Oppo

In this example, we always want to display the options Apple, Samsung, and Google in the follow up questions, and never want to show the options Xiaomi, LG, and Oppo in the follow up questions. You can set this up by adding these options in always extract and never extract settings.

How to use the always extract and never extract options?

Go to: Login » Surveys (click on a survey) » Edit.
Click on Logic for the question from which you wish to extract follow up questions.

Select Extraction logic from the drop down.

Here, we will extract Selected Choices and extract to question type Single Select.
Now, to always display options Apple, Samsung, and Google in extracted question irrespective of respondent selection, select these options in the Always Extract drop down.

To never display options Xiaomi, LG, and Oppo in extracted question irrespective of respondent selection, select these options in the Never Extract drop down.

Save Extraction Logic

How does always extract and never extract logic work when answering the survey?

In this example, we are asking respondents to select all the smartphone brands they have used.

Under Always Extract we have added the options Apple, Samsung, and Google. Even if these options are not selected, they will still be shown in the extracted follow up question.

Under Never Extract we have added the options Xiaomi, LG, and Oppo. Even if these options are selected, they will not be shown in the extracted question.
